THIS IS MY FIRST DUNCAN MILES BLOG!!
Pour a fresh bowl of water. Toss a cookie in the air, because I'M JUMPING FOR IT!!
The trouble with blogs is that I never know how long they should be, or when I'm rambling on too much, or is it OK to tackle more than one topic... and so I'm going to use myself as the barometer: write the blog as you would want to read it. No cheese--and if there is cheese, let it be something really good like the goat's milk Gouda from Trader Joe's, not like Velveeta--ALTHOUGH i know a chef who says there are some cheats that chefs agree upon, and Velveeta is one of them. I guess the bottom-line is keep it simple, and keep it real.
OK, challenge accepted.
In middle school, I remember my friends and I daring each other to each a dog biscuit, as though that was the most disgusting thing we could imagine. Fast forward to my adult life, reading treat labels, and and I felt as though we were on to something back in the day.
It should not be this way!
Seriously, I don't think that treats need to be aesthetically or flavorfully enticing to humans, but they shouldn't be revolting. It's sustenance for another creature--one who lives with, and likely sleeps with, us. Treats also don't need to be ...full of stuff. I realize that is a juvenile way to get my message across. Let me try again, and plug my motto while I'm at it: they also don't need to be complicated. Dog treats should be uncomplicated.
I feel that way about my human food, as well. I don't like food that is too complicated--meaning, has so many ingredients and is so processed that I don't think I could replicate it in my own kitchen. This is a gradient scale that has served me well--I feel better and look better when I avoid preservatives and convoluted products. When I thought about applying that to my dog's food and snacks, it made perfect sense.
Duncan Miles Treat Co is about more than treats--although that is currently my bread and butter. We're about changing the way people think about their dogs--about their treats, their health, their well-being in general. We support rescues and shelters and adoption. We are in favor of loving on your dog like you would a human, because that doesn't cost you anything but carries more value than everything. If that last idea seems too revolutionary for you, I think it's safe to say that you and I are different kinds of dog people.
I'm excited about getting some ideas on the internet's paper. Blogging, I'm here for you.
Until next time... :)
